Cooper Spirit Company | Hochstaedter’s Family Reserve Straight Rye Whisky aged 16 years | 61.9% | newly charred American Oak barrels |
Info: Thanks /u/stefan__1985 for setting up the bottle split of this beauty! It’s a 100% Rye rye from Canada. It uses 100% farm-grown rye and is sourced from the Alberta Distillery
Situation: Pregaming before the Patriots vs Bucs game, excited and worried at the same time…
Nose: A thick sweet nose which I love, honey, caramel, vanilla, herbal rye, a bit bitter, some oak, peppermint and menthol, yummi! Worth it for the nose alone
Taste: Wow, nice intense oily mouthfeel straight away, strawberries, caramel, vanilla, slightly bitter rye, lots of different spices, dill, quite woody, packs some serious heat!
Finish: menthol, oak, very powerful!, vanilla, drying tannin, quite spicy: white pepper! Lots of it! And looooong!
Conclusion: Wowser! Intense and powerful, this doesn’t hide its almost 70% but it doesn’t have to. Yummi, good stuff!
Score: A- 92/100
